A wicker laundry basket is the container in which accumulate laundry before washing. These baskets can be made of wicker, rattan, wood, plastic or metal and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Unlike a laundry basket, which is simply an open container dirty or clean clothing, baskets have a specific history and can be used as decorative accessories in various rooms of the house. Laundry baskets known today have evolved from the days when collection services in the cities involved the gathering dirty clothes in a woven basket with lid. The baskets allowed the clothes aired, thereby not moldy. When the laundry was ready, it was loaded back into the basket and surrender. The empty basket was left for the next load.
The basket for traditional clothes was woven wicker, willow or rattan with a hinged lid. They often had a wrap tie and pin to keep the lid closed while the clothes were transported to and from a laundry or the washer and dryer from the rooms or bathroom. This style is still common. There is large wicker laundry basket or cylinders with or without hinged lids that are also used for baskets of clothes.
